In the midst of preparing to open their production of “Evita” – opening May 11, Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts announced its 18th season today on social media. We will continue to update this story as new shows are announced.
The season will begin with the beloved family musical “Annie” – just in time for the holiday season. The show will run from November 9, 2019 to January 20, 2020.
The next show on the agenda will be Shakespeare’s romantic comedy “The Taming of the Shrew.” While obviously acclaimed, it seems like a rarity for musical heavy theaters to take on one of Shakespeare or even plays in general. However, Smithtown continues to defy expectations. This fall they will premiere the modern, horror play “Let the Right One In.” “The Taming of the Shew” will run from February 8, 2020 to March 1, 2020.
Then, next spring, Smithtown will take on the Green Day musical “American Idiot.” After their success with “We Will Rock You” last year, this production is sure to please Green Day fans and fans of musicals in general alike. The show features Green Day’s entire “American Idiot” album and interweaves a loose plot throughout. It will run from March 21, 2020 to April 19, 2020.
It’s the show that made Lin-Manuel Miranda a Broadway star – “In the Heights.” The musical tells the story of a mostly Hispanic-American neighborhood in Washington Heights, New York. The show will run from May 9, 2020 to June 28, 2020.
Auditions have yet to be announced, but will be featured on our audition round-up in the coming months.
Subscription packages are now available. Individual tickets go on sale beginning June 1. Visit Smithtown PAC’s website for additional information about tickets.
