“The Cat in the Hat” at the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts

With April showers in full swing you may be looking for some quality indoor entertainment for your young ones. A morning or afternoon of theater is always a great retreat filled with music and performances by local actors!

Here are the children’s theatre productions running this April into May:

“The Adventures of Peter Rabbit” at Theatre Three

Peter, Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-Tail, Benjamin Bunny, the McGregors, and all their friends come to life in this delightful adaption suggested by the characters created by Beatrix Potter. “The Adventures of Peter Rabbit” is family fun and a Theatre Three tradition for the spring break!

“The Cat in the Hat” at the YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts

Join us for the national theater of great Britain’s adaption of Dr. Seuss’s “The Cat in the Hat.” Not a word has been touched or added to the classic, ensuring anyone who has read the story will be transported into the world they have always imagined. From the moment his tall red and white hat appears from around the door, Sally and her brother know he is the funniest most mischievous cat they have ever met. With the trickiest of tricks and the craziest ideas, he is certainly fun to play with. The cat in the hat turns a rainy afternoon into an amazing adventure, But what will mom find when she gets home?

“The Wizard of Oz” at Broadhollow Theatre Company

Kids can’t get enough of Dorothy, Toto, and her companions? Whisk them away to the Land of Oz and down the yellow brick road at Broadhollow Theatre Company – with locations in East Islip and Elmont.

When: Monday April 22nd and Wednesday April 24th at 1:00p.m., Saturday May 4th, 11th and 25th at 2:00p.m., Sunday May 12th at 11:30a.m.
Tickets: $11 in advance, $13.00 at the door (two hours before the show)

“Junie B. Jones: The Musical” at The Showplace at Bellmore Movies Presented by Plaza Theatrical

Based on the beloved children’s series, Plaza Theatrical presents Junie B. Jones: The Musical! It’s Junie B.’s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie’s friend, Lucille, doesn’t want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and first grade has never been more exciting.

“Cardboard Explosion” at the Long Island Children’s Museum

“Cardboard Explosion!” by Paper Heart Puppets brings four original stories to life using nothing but cardboard and the power of your imagination. With help from the audience, puppeteer Brad Shur transforms simple cardboard shapes into elaborate puppet characters, then brings them to life right before your eyes. Get ready to outsmart dragons, choose-your-own superpower, and train adorable animal sidekicks in this fun, energetic, participatory show.
