March Long Island Children’s Theatre Round-Up

While the weather remains cold and gloomy, it can be difficult to find activities to fill up your child’s weekend itinerary. Fortunately, there is no shortage of Long Island children’s theatre to introduce young ones to the magic of live theatre!

Here are some of the Long Island children’s theatre offerings this month:

The Little Mermaid Jr. at Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts

Join Ariel and her friends Flounder, Scuttle, and Sebastian as she follows her dreams of meeting her true love on the shores above the sea. Your children will relish in their favorite songs like “Under the Sea” and “Part of Your World” performed by a cast of talented teens. This one-hour production was created with children in mind.

The Little Mermaid Jr. at Broadhollow Theatre Company

South shore and Nassau folks, you’re in luck! Bayway Arts Center in East Islip and Broadhollow in Elmont are also staging a production of The Little Mermaid Jr. this March. Different theaters, same classic story! With Disney celebrating the 30th anniversary of the film’s release, it’s not a surprise to see this show at multiple theaters.

Broadhollow in Elmont

When: Saturday March 9th, 23rd, 30th and April 6th at 2:00 p.m. & Sunday March 24th at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets: $11 in advance, $13.00 at the door (two hours before the show)

The Wizard of Oz at Cultural Arts Playhouse

This timeless story of Dorothy and her four companions seeking out the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will have your little ones skipping down the aisles of the theater. This Long Island children’s theater favorite makes for a great outing the entire family can enjoy!

Additionally, CAP is hosting a one-night sensory friendly performance with lower sound levels and the lights on during the entire performance. Patrons are free to talk and move about during the performance, which takes place on March 8th at 7 p.m.

James and the Giant Peach at The Argyle Theatre

While Roald Dahl’s classic story of a young boy who discovers the magic of the world and in himself has been a favorite book and film for years, children can now experience the tale on stage! The last of The Argyle’s season of children’s theatre, “James and the Giant Peach” features music from Tony-Award nominated team Pasek and Paul. You don’t want to miss this new Long Island children’s theatre offering that is sure to delight the child in every audience member.

Madagascar – A Musical Adventure at John W. Engeman Theater at Northport

Based on the high-grossing family film, Madagascar brings Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, Gloria the hippo, and your favorite pack of penguins to life on stage. Kids will be singing “Move It, Move It” all the way home.
